Ultimate Morning Routine Checklist
Everyone of us has some type of morning routine checklist. However, many are not aware of theirs.
In the following list you will learn the best actions you can include in your morning routine checklist.
1. Get up immediately
I don’t know why but for some reason, this seems very hard for some people.
Ideally, after your alarm or waking up naturally you should get up immediately. If you stay in the bed, you absorb lazy energy and become less motivated pretty quickly.
Therefore, put your alarm and phone away from you, so you can’t reach out to them with your hand.
In my experience, getting up immediately makes it actually much easier to start your day and feel energetic.
So, when you wake up tomorrow, make sure to get up immediately after you wake up.
Let’s be honest, NO ONE needs to hit a snooze or scroll phone for 30 minutes in the bed after waking up!
2. Drink Water
After you get up, it is critical to hydrate your body after sleep. Drink at least to glasses of water and you are good to go.
Drinking water in the morning helps to start your body for a new day and it lets your body to function properly.
Additionally, you are hydrating yourself, meaning your muscles, joints and other parts get what they need.
Drinking water should be an essential part of everyone’s morning routine checklist.
Tip: In order to make this easier, set a glass of water ready in the evening.
3. Take a cold shower
This is my absolute favorite. It might seem hard, unpleasant and crazy but each time I take one, I feel extremely good and confident.
The reason is: you push yourself outside your comfort zone immediately after waking up. This habit helps to establish a strong mindset.
Taking cold shower in the morning boosts your energy and wakes you up instantly. It’s also good for blood circulation and preventing cold.
Being able to take cold showers consistently will build self-discipline and strong mindset, which lead to a disciplined lifestyle.
Note: It might be hard to take a cold shower, but try one and see its INSANE power.
4. Physical Self-Care
After waking up and ideally, after a cold shower, take a moment for a physical self-care.
Brush your teeth, wash your face and moisturize your skin.
Making these actions will make you proud and feel good about yourself. That’s the best attitude to attack the day and upcoming tasks.
5. Stretch and meditate
If you want to boost your morning energy, you should definitely include some active stretching or meditating in your morning routine checklist. You can even do both.
Both of these shouldn’t take longer than 5 minutes.
Stretching is a fantastic way to get blood flowing and feel your muscles. It helps to release pressure from muscles as well as activating them for the day.
Meditation is an incredible way to train your mindset, and focus on your actual goals. By meditating you can establish a strong self-discipline and find out things you are grateful for.
There is a lot of content on meditation on the internet. Make sure to use them.
Tip: Do active stretching instead of passive stretching.
6. Make a cup of tea or coffee
Enjoying a cup of hot beverage is exciting for many people.
Personally, I have built a habit of drinking coffee every other day. On those days when I drink it, it makes me more excited about my morning routine.
Focus on aroma, drinking process and absorbing the smell and warmth of the beverage.
Focusing on little details when drinking a morning coffee or tea can have a tremendous effect on your day and productivity.
Tip: Make sure to take advantage of little habits and enjoyments.
7. Healthy breakfast
Having a healthy breakfast is a must on your morning routine checklist. Healthy breakfast is my favorite part of my morning routine besides taking a cold shower.
Breakfast is in my opinion the most important meal of the day. It should give you enough energy to tackle your most important tasks after completing your morning routine.
Skipping or having a poor breakfast will have a negative impact on your performance and will reduce your motivation to work on daily tasks.
Therefore, I highly suggest to put some effort into having a healthy breakfast. Make it enjoyable.
My breakfast includes oatmeal, two fried eggs and rye bread.
Examples of what to eat in the morning:
- Oatmeal
- Eggs (boiled or fried)
- Bread with cheese, cucumber, tomato and lettuce
- Yogurt and muesli
- Cottage cheese
- Fruit
- Cereal
8. Listen to something motivational
Listening to something you find extremely motivating is a thing you should include in your morning routine checklist.
Moreover, when you listen to something that motivates you or makes you happy about your progress, it helps you to stay focused, productive and you are less likely to do pointless things.
You can listen to favorite music genre of yours. Or listen to podcast you find very interesting and entertaining.
Podcasts are great because you can learn beneficial things and find new perspectives.
Additionally, listening to podcasts while cooking your breakfast can be very therapeutic for your mindset as well.
Podcasts can level up your mornings and therefore, take advantage of it by adding them into your morning routine checklist.
Tip: Don’t listen for too long because internalizing new information becomes harder.
9. Stay off your phone
Staying off your phone in the morning will definitely bring more value to your life because you are able to focus on yourself.
You can use your phone for listening music or podcasts, but for any other action, DON’T use it until you have completed your morning routine checklist.
If your main focus in the morning goes into scrolling your phone, it decreases your ability to work on things you have to and additionally, it means you are not respecting the “new” day.
By grabbing and using your phone in the morning, it is incredibly easy to turn a productive start of the day into an unproductive one.
Tip: Think twice before touching your phone.
10. Make your bed
Nothing is worse than starting your day without making your bed.
If you are not able to make your bed, it simply means you are not disciplined and you are irresponsible.
In my experience, making my bed helps to build momentum and creates a feeling of completing something important, even though it seems like a little unnecessary action to do.
I like to make my bed after I have eaten my breakfast because it is good to let the bed air out after sleeping.
Overall, making a bed is a must for every morning routine checklist. You can decide, when you do it, but make sure to do it.
11. Hit a workout
Exercising is one the best ways to start your day and morning if your goal is to have a productive day.
It doesn’t only give you energy after completing a workout, but it will allow you to focus on your to-do list for the rest of the day.
It is common to hear that some people workout almost immediately after waking up.
However, when it comes to myself, as an athlete, I need to make sure my morning routine checklist is completed before I hit a workout.
Meaning, I have eaten my nutritious breakfast as well for stable energy levels.
Generally, play around with it, try out and see when doing a workout suits you the best. Morning workouts are so energetic and will make you more productive.
12. Read a book
Reading a book is not necessary to include in morning routine checklist but can give a high boost into productive day.
Many people prefer and suggest to read the book while eating your breakfast. However, I like to read a book with a full focus and I read 10 pages (takes only 10 minutes roughly).
Reading the book with a full focus helps to process the fact you’re reading and you will value the book better.
Read a book you find entertaining but ideally, something you can learn from and that keeps you motivated.
My personal favorites are self-improvement books with topics such as productivity, time management and mindset.
By reading every morning for one year, you can get a lot of practical tips and knowledge that can potentially level up your life.
Eventually, If you think something is missing from your morning routine checklist, make sure to read 10 pages a day.
13. Plan your day the night before
This is the most effective part of your morning routine checklist because you are planning the next day already the night before.
By doing this, you ensure you already know what kind of tasks you have to accomplish and work on.
In addition, prepare everything ready for the morning. Your clothes, lunch, bag and so on.
Planning your day the night before will make your day very productive if you are able to stick to your to-do list.
Furthermore, when you plan your day the night before, you don’t have to waste time in the morning planning your actions and you can attack your tasks with pure confidence.
Why to create a morning routine checklist?
According to people, including myself, when you create morning routine checklist and have established a strong morning routine you enjoy, it is natural to have productive day and results.
Having a strong morning routine helps you to start the day productively and build momentum through several important actions.
Try out different ways and see what kind of morning routine is best for you. You can’t establish a strong morning routine in a week. Be brave, consistent and active.
Creating morning routine checklist will help you to become a disciplined person with high and big goals.
Benefit of having morning routine checklist
There is a bunch of phenomenal reasons to use morning routine checklist in your life:
- Become organized and productive
- Focus on your goals and be responsible
- Form strong, healthy habits
- Reduce unnecessary stress
